FIFTEEN MINUTES BEFORE “Seduced by Seven Sirens” were to take the stage and unleash a set of fearsome new songs they had worked on for their upcoming album, panic swept through Kat Farland's body. “Anyone seen Evan?” she asked the band. “I haven't seen him all night.” She couldn't remember the last time she worried about him, but figured it was sometime before she met the man standing next to her, holding her hand comfortably tight.

“Saw him about an hour ago,” Kenny said. “Didn't see him after that.”

“We go on in fifteen,” Kat replied. “Where the hell could he be?” It wasn't like Evan to go missing minutes before the show.

“Maybe he went outside or something,” Adam said. He had just finished setting up the stage—alone, because Owen wanted to spend the last few minutes with his goddamn Goddess before she hit the stage—and was heading back when he heard the commotion. “I can go look for him.”

“That would be sweet,” Kat said. “I can't believe he would just disappear before the biggest show of our lives.”

“It's okay, babe,” Owen said, and kissed her cheek. “If he's out there, Adam will find him.”

Maybe you should be the one to find him, lover-boy, Adam thought to himself. “If I'm not back fifteen...”

“Be back in fifteen,” Nell said. “Or you'll have to play lead guitar.”

Adam smirked at the idea of playing lead; he didn't even know what a power chord was.

He started down the hallway, toward the back exit when a very bad feeling approached him. He couldn't explain what it was, or where it had come from; all he knew was the night had soured.

In Adam's case, these types of feelings had the annoying knack of being dead right.
